Made-to-Order Kitchen Manufacturing & Unit-Cost Validation

A controlled end-to-end ERP test connecting quotation, bill of materials, production operations, perpetual inventory valuation, work in process, services, Egyptian VAT and milestone billing.

EGP 12,975validated manufacturing cost
EGP 15,275estimated direct cost including services
EGP 29,500net sales value
48.22%estimated gross margin
The assignment

Prove the hardest part of the ERP cycle before live adoption.

The objective was to validate that a custom kitchen order could move through sales, inventory and manufacturing while producing one traceable unit cost and a controlled accounting trail. The test used anonymized, non-customer data.

Cost visibility

Materials, labor and factory overhead had to accumulate against one manufacturing order without being mixed with selling or installation costs.

Inventory accounting

AVCO, perpetual valuation, raw materials, WIP and production accounts needed a coherent configuration that would not duplicate valuation entries.

Milestone billing

The commercial policy required separate invoices at 80%, 15% and 5% milestones—without recognizing invoices before the underlying milestone occurred.

Configuration design

A standard Odoo workflow, configured for made-to-order furniture.

1. Sales triggerQuotation and sales order define the finished product, services, VAT and commercial milestones.
2. ManufacturingMTO demand creates the manufacturing requirement and consumes the approved bill of materials.
3. Cost captureFour work centers absorb cutting, edge banding, assembly and finishing time at controlled hourly rates.
4. AccountingPerpetual AVCO valuation, WIP and draft milestone invoices preserve the accounting sequence.
AreaConfiguration testedControl objective
Inventory valuationAVCO with perpetual valuationContinuous inventory value with a consistent average material cost.
Production accountsDedicated WIP and production-cost accountsSeparate incomplete production from raw materials and finished goods.
OperationsCutting/CNC, edge banding, assembly and finishingCapture machine/labor time and overhead at the manufacturing order level.
ServicesDelivery and installation as separate sales-service linesKeep post-production service economics visible without inflating factory cost.
TaxEgyptian VAT at 14% in the controlled testSeparate net revenue, tax and gross customer obligation.
Test result

The manufacturing order produced a traceable cost build-up.

Document control

Milestone invoices follow the physical and commercial event.

The test deliberately avoided one invoice with an 80/15/5 payment term. Instead, each milestone is a separate invoice created only when earned or contractually due.

80% — order confirmation

A separate draft invoice was validated at EGP 23,600 net + EGP 3,304 VAT = EGP 26,904 gross. It remained unposted during the controlled test.

15% — finishing stage

Created only when the finishing milestone is achieved and supported by the production status.

5% — acceptance

Created after installation and customer acceptance, completing the invoice trail without premature billing.

Control conclusion: draft documents prove the workflow without creating a live receivable, tax liability or customer obligation before management authorizes the transaction.
Management value

A repeatable foundation for rollout—not just a successful demo.

Transparent unit cost

Each kitchen can be analyzed through material consumption, operation time, factory cost and separate site services.

Accounting continuity

Inventory, WIP, production and revenue documents follow one controlled sequence with fewer manual reconciliations.

Margin discipline

Management can compare selling price with actual manufacturing cost and service estimates before accepting future orders.

Scope note: These figures are from a controlled test scenario prepared to validate the system design. They are not a claim of realized customer revenue or posted statutory transactions.
